a STAGED READING
From the Talmud to the Borscht Belt, humor has long been a tool of the Jewish people to grapple with the world around them. During these unprecedented times, we may find ourselves shackled with anxiety, grief, and fear. In the spirit of Passover, we invite you to free yourself from these feelings, if only for a night, and find relief in a tradition that may be more Jewish than matzah ball soup: comedy! Join our friends at Jewish Women’s Theatre’s NEXT @ The Braid for a staged reading of Casey Adler's hysterical play, Call It the Piñata Story, or Eating Popeyes Chicken, It's Just Three Guys Shooting the Sh*t, followed by a Q&A. (Please be advised that this play contains sexual content and strong language.)
This is the first of a series inspired by the success of Pilots, Shmilots, a monthly writers meetup on the east side in which local NuRoots community playwrights, screenwriters, and storytellers hear their writing read out loud and have the opportunity to discuss it with their peers. If you’re interested in joining future gatherings, please email Nina Carlin (west side) or Oren Peleg (east side).
