YOUR VOICE MATTERS: ELECTION 2020

Jews have been involved in politics for a biblically long time. The Jewish people have always cultivated community and collective action—sourcing funds for ancient temples, developing solutions for public safety (like flooding) and health (like leprosy), and even mandating that a minimum of ten people be present to pray. And American Jews have a particularly important history when it comes to voting: Unlike nearly every other country in the world, our recognition as citizens with the right to vote domestically dates back to most of the pre-1776 British colonies.

Jewish wisdom teaches us that while we are not obligated to complete the work, we are not free to desist from it, either. Regardless of political leaning, let’s all take part. Scroll down to join us.

MOBILIZE the VOTE

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20

How do we vote safely during a pandemic? How can we help mobilize others? What’s the Jewish value in using our voice? Texting and calling eligible voters with helpful voting resources is a simple, easy, and effective way to make an impact in your community and across the country. NuRoots and L.A.’s Jewish Federation are partnering with Repair the WorldVoteRiders, and When We All Vote to offer training to call and text eligible voters. We’ll give you all the tools and confidence you’ll need to mobilize eligible voters, and then put our training into action with a text and call virtual zoom session.

NUROOTS, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, and the FEDERATION

NuRoots—which helps Jewish Angelenos in their twenties and thirties find and build community across L.A.—and the Community Engagement Initiative (C.E.), both a part of L.A.’s Jewish Federation, are collaborating to help inform and mobilize voters for Election 2020.

Along with the Rautenberg New Leaders Project (N.L.P.), C.E. brings together leaders from different backgrounds and perspectives to learn and work together on important issues in Los Angeles and Israel, promoting civil discourse and helping the Federation strengthen our community. To learn more about N.L.P. and other civic leadership programs—including L.A. Connect, CIVruta, the ChangeMaker Challenge, or Community Service—please contact Terra Zicklin.
